Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, musician and mixed blood (Cherokee & Comanche) Native American MICKI FREE and his band were joined by legendary Rolling Stones’ bassist Bill Wyman for their mainstage performance this past Saturday (June 26) at Hard Rock Calling festival in London’s Hyde Park.

The two meet at last year’s Hard Rock Calling show--where FREE and his band have performed at the past four consecutive shows--and kept in touch over the past year and FREE invited Wyman to join him this year. The performance, described by as “the best double act of the weekend.” included the Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin Jack Flash” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House.” As the two told they are planning future collaborations including some possible recording down the road.

Next up for MICKI FREE: the release of his album MICKI FREE AMERICAN HORSE, due out today (Monday, June 28) in the U.K. and July 20 in the U.S. The 11-track disc showcases FREE’s fiery guitar and writing skills and the musical talents of his band, drummer Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz, Rachel Z) and bassist David Santos (Billy Joel, John Fogerty). This album--the first in a series of NATIVE MUSIC ROCKS RECORDS releases due out in 2010 on Fontana/Universal--is generating an early critical buzz:

“Micki Free hearkens back to a better time when being a ‘Guitar Hero’ meant bleeding on six-strings, not bashing buttons on plastic. It wasn't that long ago when rock bands were measured by the strength of their songwriting and soloing rather than the tightness of their jeans and the straightness of their hair. Thankfully, there's Micki's American Horse—straight-forward, balls-out blues rock at its best. From the groove-laden stomp of ‘Wounded Knee’ to Micki's otherworldly interpretations of Jimi Hendrix classics, American Horse comes to life with every lick and lead.”

Free is an amazing axe player....songs like ‘Wounded Knee,’ ‘Lucky 7’ and ‘The Drowning Pool’ will have true guitar loving fans of classic hard rock sitting up and taking notice....Free has also started a record label titled Native Music Rocks that will introduce the word to other Native American musicians. If they are anything like Micki, then the world of music is in for a real treat."

Five years of making award-winning and spiritually enriching Native American flute music, FREE is back and rockin' with AMERICAN HORSE, a fierce thoroughbred of an album whose 11 tracks remind us of the singular musical talent he possesses.

“This is a real rock album, and I'm very proud of it,” says FREE. “I was just inspired to write some cool rock stuff again. To me, rock 'n' roll is dead as we know it; there's some cool music out there, but it's not rock 'n' roll, classic stuff like we used to know--Zep, Hendrix, Cream, all of that. That's what I do. My heart is in rock 'n' roll, and that's what's on this album.”

AMERICAN HORSE starts at a gallop with the bluesy attack of “Wounded Knee,” a heartfelt paean to the 1890 incident that FREE--whose bloodline comes from the Comanche and Cherokee tribes--reprises at the end of the album with a “warrior version” of the song. “New York New York” and “Lucky #7” are blazing, straightforward rockers, while “Drowning Pool” recalls the droning ambience of Robin Trower and certain Led Zeppelin songs. FREE delves into Texas-style slide playing on “Black Moon Rising” and visits the Mississippi Delta on “Angels in the Room,” and then changes the pace with the melodic, rootsy gentleness of “Heather's Arms” And, of course, it wouldn't be a Micki Free album without a nod or two to his hero, Jimi Hendrix, which he does twice on a coupling of the little-known “Hey Baby” with “New Rising Sun” and a ferocious, 17-minute “Voodoo Chile Blues” that was recorded in one take at Nashville's Quad Studios with bassist David Santos (Billy Joel, John Fogerty) and drummer Cindy Blackman (Lenny Kravitz, Rachel Z).

Chris Cornell, lead singer of hard rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, brings his singular voice to the brand new Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas on October 15th for Ambassadors of Rock. Not only will this mark the continuation of Hard Rock's global tour of top artists and bands, but it will also mark the grand opening of the brand new Cafe. Opening the show will be Grammy® Award winner Micki Free, one of Hard Rock's favorite performers.

This is going to be one special VIP event, and one of the only ways for you to attend was to enter the official Spin/Hard Rock sweepstakes. It's a pretty damn cool sweeps, we must say. If you're the lucky winner, you and a friend will fly round-trip to Vegas, get VIP tickets to the show, and stay in the new Paradise Tower at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas for 3 nights. You think you can handle that?

Micki was seen and heard everywhere in 2008……and 2009 has been even busier!!!!!
Starting with the anticipated completion and release of his latest CD “Micki Free Ambassador of Rock / Electric Blues”, Micki will hit the ground running.
Recorded at Quad Studios in Nashville TN, with his long time buddy and partner first engineer extrodanaire; George “Tutko”, or “The King” as Micki refers to him, this “blues rock” CD is expected to be Micki’s best work to date…or that’s the rumor that is going round!! With Micki at the helm writing all the original pieces, it’s rumored to even have a few “Jimi Hendrix” covers (we all know “the free” digs him some Hendrix!!) such as “Voodoo Chile” (slight return) “Voodoo Chile” and Micki's all time Hendrix favorite groove; “Hey Baby/The New Rising Sun”.

On this electrifying blues rock CD David Santos guests on bass and Shawn Fincher kicks out the jams on drums as well!! There is even Hammond organ blazing on this disk ala “Gypsy Cowboy” too!

Other rumors have Cindy Blackman (drummer extraordinaire) of Lenny Kravtiz fame jumping on board for a few Hard Rock Café shows with Micki….joined by David Santos on bass and Hammond master legend himself Mike Finnigan (played Hammond organ on Jimi Hendrix’s “Electric Ladyland / “Rainy Day” & “Still Raining”)…..

But then again folks, we all know how easy rumors start…when Mick joined Shalamar per Charlie Murphy’s buddy’s on the Dave Chappelle Show; “Shalamar got a new girl in the band fine as hell”…well we all know that girl turned out to be Micki Free!!!!!.....

Then there's the rumor that Jean Beauvoir (Micki’s writing partner from Crown of Thorns fame) and Micki are gearing up for a new CD together called “Beauvoir/ Free”….

and last but certainly not least is the rumored project that Micki’s doing with ZZ Top legend The Reverend Willy G. himself…Billy Gibbons and Terry Manning of Compass Point Studios (famed engineer for ZZ Top & Led Zeppelin)…..
Well…..we will just have to wait and see!!!!

BUT!!!!...Now hold on a minute…..!!!
Some things we know are for true and for certain like Micki just performed at Morgan Freeman’s famed “Ground Zero Blues Club” in Clarksdale Mississippi home of The Crossroads & The Delta Blues!!!!...
We know he is currently touring for Hard Rock International & The Seminole Tribe of Florida’s NATIVE MUSIC ROCKS TOUR performing with top Native American acts worldwide. He is also wrapping up producing the First Annual Seminole Star Search Grand Prize Winners CD VOL-1

FACT; Native Music Rocks will be in DC Jan 19th at The Hard Rock Café and Jan 20th performing for The American Indian Inaugural Ball at the Hyatt Crystal Palace….and then onto NY Hard Rock Café for a slammin performance with special celebrity guests!!!….and then to Berlin Germany Hard Rock Café in March, and Las Vegas performing at REZ 2009!

As usual Micki’s touring band is tight and ready to blues rock baby!!....starting with his long time buddy and bassist formerly of “Cheap Trick”, Mr. Jon Brant.
On drums this time out is a bad, bad dude formerly of “Boston”, Curly Smith, and on back ground vocals and all around FOX is a beauty that cannot be described in mere human words….rising star Cherokee singer “Shea” (who Micki will be producing in 2009 on her first full length solo CD; NOTE; Micki produced and arranged the “Seminole Wind” CD and also wrote and directed the video as well for “The Seminole Tribe of Florida” featuring Shea on lead vocals. The video was nominated for “Best Video of the Year” at the American Indian Film Festival!!)

So…..with that in mind check back regularly and we will keep you informed of; gossip, rumor and truth on the “Inimitable”, The Electric Warrior, The one and only “Gypsy Cowboy”……
Micki Free…..
